okay, this is a rant. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
I have a lot of gluten-free pet peeves, but one of the big ones is when I see GF people online (mostly on tumblr, let’s be HONEST) complaining that suddenly all bread, pasta, cookies, etc. are gone from their diet.
you know, the old “MY LIFE IS SO HARD NOW BECAUSE I CAN NEVER MAKE A SANDWICH FOR LUNCH O WOE IS ME”
can I tell you something? my blood runs pasta. it is literally made up of spaghetti, I’m pretty sure. and that DID NOT CHANGE with my diagnosis. it’s a lot more expensive now, true, but goodness knows I still eat pasta way too often. because it EXISTS, even GF. and not just that - there are options! corn pasta, brown rice pasta, white rice pasta, quinoa pasta. even the weird sweet potato soba my mom and I found in a health food store.
I eat sandwiches made on whole grain bread, I bake cakes for birthdays, I made scones last month, I eat cupcakes when I’m out and about with friends, and in the last year I’ve had everything from crepes to mozzarella sticks.
GUYS. you can still EAT things. if you’re avoiding bread and pasta it’s your OWN FAULT.
I feel better now.
(While we’re here, it’s CELIAC disease, not CELIACS. there is only one of them. one of what? no idea. BUT THERE IS ONLY ONE.)
